DEMONSTRATION: BRUSSELS ARTIST-RUN WEBSITE & APéRO
End: - 19:00
The BARN Core Team invites you for the fourth workshop on the Brussels Artist-Run Website, a tool for the Brussels Artist-Run Network. At Bardaf, Brussels
17/10/2025, 14-18h
14-15h: visit Bardaf
18h: apéro
With dedicated members of the BARN hive Leo Leyens (programming) and Johanna Gratzer (design), the BARN Core Team has been working hard on a website which will serve as a hub for the Brussels Artist-Run Network. This first public demonstration of the new Brussels Artist-Run Website at Bardaf will take the form of a workshop bringing together the three main functions that have been tested and improved during the 3 previous workshops:
An open-source map shows all initiatives that want to be visible, with a static marker for spaces with a fixed address and a floating marker for nomadic and decentralized initiatives. This functionality has been part of the workshop ‘Mapping the Network’. You’ll see that for now, only few of the initiatives are visible on the map. During this event we will help you show yours.
Each initiative can have its own page. Rather than copying the text on an existing website or social media profile, they take the perspective of self-organising artists and art workers. It can be considered an expanded inventory of the network. Questions that drove the workshop ‘Inventory of the Network’ and remain central to the ‘soft mapping of the Network’ that the BARN Core Team understands as its primary research practice: What do you do? How do you manage? What are your motivations? What resources you have (space, equipment, software, special skills, knowledge, contacts, etc)? What do need? What have you learnt? What do you not want to happen? What are your dreams?
A shared calendar is perhaps the most essential feature for an online forum for a community that does not have a common way of communicating with the outside world. During the workshop ‘Creating a Collective Agenda’ we got to know each other through brief presentations on our upcoming events, while imagining ways to collaborate when 2 or more events happen on the same day. We learned how to create an agenda item, in a way that it shows immediately on the website and that can be embedded in the monthly newsletter by the BARN Core Team. During this workshop we’ll reiterate this and immediately lay the basis for the November newsletter.
We host a workshop where you can get hands-on, explore the site, and help us shape it together. There will be things that can be improved, just as there will be things of which we are still not sure how to best name or visualize them. This afternoon will be a good moment for collective intelligence!
Bring your friends, bring your hands! We’ll have drinks and snacks, if you bring your computer that never hurts 🙂 Afterwards we will have drinks – if the weather permits, on Bardaf’s beautiful rooftop terrace that overlooks the Saint Gilles and Forest.
