[27/09/2026] ABU AMA, POPON & CATHERINE DANGER, LIVE

This Sunday (27/09), the living legend Abu Ama (DE) will pay us a visit for a gathering we’ve been all looking forwards to. leaving his parrots behind to get us moving to subsonic frequencies that feel like the sun’s been replaced. we will be thinking of Sensational too, who was meant to be with us for this one. RIP. we’re also delighted to be able to host Popon (JP/DE), who will perform her a/v show alongside nkub for the first time in Brussels. having Popon join us for this one felt very natural, as her sound overlaps on so many levels with Abu’s, from the noizzy to the dubbed out and experimental bits. local <3love & PSST affiliate Catherine Danger is gonna be playing her illbient - experimental - witchery too, and daya & ojoo will be playing tunes in between concerts from the bar, classic Batlas in a youtube preamp style.

Abu Ama (Bokeh Versions - Seagrave - Hexx9records)
Abu Ama’s dubwise tales of Turkish traditional songs, sufi ghosts, Syrian locked grooves and Indonesian field recordings. Snatches of UK pub talk strung together with rumbles of sub add to the disorientating lack of place - wherever you are, you’re arriving here for the first time. Each tune carries different specific message, either spiritual, soul, social, ecological, political or related to many different things of today’s earth life he cares about. Abu is displaying a channel of communication between his soul and you, the receiver, whose radio is set to receive this frequent waves of music. Music at its best. Music representing earth and universe at the same moment. Abu Ama lives in West-Germany; talks of his gypsy roots and vague links to Spiral Tribe. He can often be found teaching local refugees English at the weekends.

Popon (Small but Hard - Heatcrimes)
Popon is the alias of Japanese sound artist and Berlin-based musician Tomomi, emerging from the city’s DIY, noise and improvisation circuits with a practice built around playful destruction, rhythmic excess and total freedom of movement. Formerly performing under the alias un-know, Tomomi has spent years moving between punk, improvisation, Japanese noise and underground electronic music, including a period living in Bristol that left its mark on her unruly approach to rhythm and sound. As Popon, those influences collide in a volatile mix of freeform noise, breakcore, minimal tekno, jungle pressure and warped rave electronics.
Her music thrives on contradiction: demented toy-like melodies against cavernous noise, cute sounds against dark ambience, frantic rhythms against moments of strange, disorienting space. There is a deliberately childish sense of curiosity in the work; an openness to sounds, textures and ideas without concern for whether they belong together.Live, Popon brings that same spirit of unpredictability into the room: an AV performance alongside Nkub, a visual artist specialising in 3D, motion graphics, and live visuals. A performance where noise, rhythm, imagery and playful sonic fragments collide in real time. Nothing stays fixed for long.
