Looking for a place to sweat and transcend? Enter DOEM!
DOEM is a choreographic research process that explores altered states of consciousness induced by electronic music. With the aim of developing a shared physical language, both among
performers and with a general audience, the workshops offered at Metarage this season are designed as a link between the company's studio practice and performing for a wider public. In the safest possible environment, you are invited to experience and share the practice of DOEM, exploring the relationship between your body and live music.
Through choreographic tools developed during the residency, the challenge is to allow the music to flow through you, actively listening, to reach a state of cathartic release.
Expenditure, being together, exchange, and awareness of others and the space we inhabit are all key concepts central to this work.
With you, we want to explore the different facets of DOEM, test the practice in small groups, put our tools to the test, observe which ones work – or don't – and spend an afternoon outside of time
Cyriel Lucas , born in Brussels in the mid-1990s into a working-class family, grew up between the Belgian countryside and the south of France. This dual heritage fostered a certain cultural ambiguity in the construction of his identity.
After a first year at IAD (Institut des Arts de Diffusion – Louvain-la-Neuve), an academic year studying communication at university, and physical training at the École de Théâtre Physique in Strasbourg – where he notably worked with members of the Peeping Tom company during workshops – he enrolled at INSAS (Institut National Supérieur des Arts du Spectacle – Bruxelles). He obtained his first master's degree in dramatic performance there in 2020.
Throughout his career, he has developed an artistic sensibility geared towards multidisciplinarity and dance theatre. Alongside his studies, he trained in lighting design and makeup, created a drag persona which he continues to portray on stage, and became involved in the founding and development of the non-profit organization Ravie and its activities.
Hyperactive and curious to explore all aspects of his work, in 2021 he began a choreographic research project within the master's program in dance at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp, in partnership with DeSingel, from which he graduated in 2023.
