Jeudi 26 février à 18h, nous sommes ravi*es d´accueillir la curatrice, autrice, éditrice et traductrice autodidacte Virginie Bobin pour son livre Désapprendre en traduisant – Une pratique critique et collective. Elle s´entretiendra avec l´éditrice indépendante Céline Chazalviel.
La discussion portera sur l´acte de traduction comme outil pédagogique, comme acte politique et comme geste de soin dans un contexte politique hostile, plaçant le travail collectif et les relations affectives au cœur des pratiques critiques.
Désapprendre en traduisant – Une pratique critique et collective est paru en octobre 2025 aux éditions Villa Arson dirigées par Alice Dusapin. La collection et ligne de recherche « La surface démange » initiée par Sophie Orlando et Céline Chazalviel, est aujourd´hui portée par Sophie Orlando et Alice Dusapin. L´ouvrage est également publié en anglais en collaboration avec Sternberg Press sous le titre Unlearning with Translation – A Critical and Collective Practice.
La langue de la soirée sera le français - avec possibilité de traductions spontanées vers l´anglais ou le néerlandais.
Virginie Bobin est docteure en recherche artistique (PhD-in-Practice de l´Académie des Beaux-Arts de Vienne, 2023) et enseigne l´art et les pratiques sociales à l´ésadhar de Rouen depuis 2024. Elle est membre co-fondatrice de la plateforme Qalqalah قلقلة. De 2009 à 2018, elle a travaillé pour des centres d´art et lieux de résidence en France et à l´international (Villa Vassilieff, Bétonsalon - Centre d´art et de recherche, Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art, Les Laboratoires d´Aubervilliers, biennale Performa). Elle a dirigé plusieurs ouvrages collectifs, dont Composing Differences (Les presses du réel, 2015), Republications (avec Mathilde Villeneuve, Archive Books, 2015) et Bestiario de Lengüitas (avec Mercedes Azpilicueta, k.verlag, 2024).
Cette année, elle publie également L´interprète dis/paraît dans la collection Scriptings: Political Scenarios, une enquête menée auprès d´interprètes et traducteur·ices professionnel·les et bénévoles, ainsi que de représentant·es de l´État et d´associations travaillant auprès de personnes exilées prises dans des procédures de demande d´asile en France.

On Thursday, February 26, celador is delighted to welcome curator, author, editor, and self-taught translator Virginie Bobin for a presentation of her book Unlearning with Translation – A Critical and Collective Practice. She will be in conversation with independent publisher Céline Chazalviel.
The discussion will focus on the act of translation as an educational tool, a political act, and ultimately a gesture of care in these tense cultural times, placing collective labor and relations are key aspects of any critical practice.
Unlearning with Translation was published in French and in English in October 2025 by Villa Arson in collaboration with Sternberg Press under the direction of Alice Dusapin. The collection and line of research Scratching the surface was initiated by Sophie Orlando and Céline Chazalviel, and is now directed by Sophie Orlando and Alice Dusapin.
The talk will be in French, with the possibility of spontaneous translations into English or Dutch.
Virginie Bobin operates across research, curatorial and editorial practices, writing, pedagogy and translation, with a particular interest in performance, experimental forms of artistic research, the role of art, artists and art institutions in the public sphere, and formats that exceed that of the exhibition. She has worked for various art centers and residency programs (Villa Vassilieff, Bétonsalon, Witte de With, Les Laboratoires d´Aubervilliers, Performa). She is a Doctor in Artistic Research (PhD-in-Practice, Academy of Fines Arts, Vienna, 2023), a professor in Art and Social Practices at ésadhar (Rouen, since 2024), and co-founding member of the editorial and curatorial platform Qalqalah قلقلة. In addition to her contributions to various international journals, she has edited the collective publications Composing Differences (Les presses du réel, 2015), Republications (with Mathilde Villeneuve, Archive Books, 2015), and Bestiario de Lengüitas (with Mercedes Azpilicueta, k.verlag, 2024).
