Founded in 2025, Off-Centre is a collective of art workers dedicated to bringing visibility to diverse art and social initiatives within the neighborhoods of Brussels.

With a focus on independent and self-organised art spaces (artist-run spaces, artist studios, residency spaces, community art centers, cultural associations, neighborhood initiatives, etc.), we aspire to foster community engagement, encourage mutual support, and create opportunities to learn from local collectives who demonstrate resilience in face of cultural and economic challenges.

By developing a year-round program (walking tours, workshops, reading sessions, roundtables, etc.) or by offering our services to existing organisations, we aim to pool our knowledge, share concrete tools, and nurture a network of solidarity. In this sense, we seek to create connections between spaces and people who often appear disconnected: enabling venues and artists to meet, introducing neighborhood residents to new practices, and supporting a platform for dialogue to address the issue of isolation within the artistic community.

What do we do?

Off-Centre organises walking tours, either as independent events or as part of existing programs, which can be centered around a specific theme (community practices, eco- responsible initiatives, etc.) or take on a more open format (studio visits, art in public spaces, etc.).

With these tours, we work to bring together various spaces and initiatives that challenge normative conceptions of art, inviting participants to navigate different artistic realities and their interconnections. In doing so, we strive to engage a wide range of audiences—from artists and other art professionals to art students and local residents— encouraging a richer and more layered understanding of Brussels’ contemporary art landscape.

Throughout the year, Off-Centre also creates moments of dialogue and reflection by hosting events such as the Off-Center days (a weekend of workshops, reading sessions, roundtables, etc.) that deepen the conversations sparked during the tours. From these exchanges, we intend to contribute to a collective mapping and develop a practical toolkit addressing key questions: How are these entities organized? How do they collaborate? How are they rooted in the neighborhoods?

By moving through the city, we engage directly with the textures, rhythms, and contradictions that shape its artistic and social landscapes. Walking allows us to experience spaces beyond the central circuits, to encounter overlooked initiatives, and to reframe how art is accessed and understood. Mapping—both as a tool and as a process —helps us trace these connections, chart alternative routes, and make visible the networks that sustain creative practice. Together, walking and mapping form a method of exploration and shared learning, enabling us to rethink the city collectively and open new paths toward a more inclusive cultural ecosystem.
